Batik Blues Jacket |
|
In the Batik Blues jacket class (see photo lower left,) students will create a scrappy design using a micro-fleece fabric base. Students will trace their custom fitted jacket pattern onto micro-fleece base. We will learn techniques for applying scraps using the flip and sew method. Figure Flattering Quiltwear was founded by Joan Derylak, an avid seamstress and quilter. Joan has been sewing since the age of 7. Joan believes a good fit is essential to making a figure flattering garment so she has developed three types of quilted jacket patterns specifically intended to be used for quiltwear and designed with only a few seams making the quilt design process easier. Class size is limited to 20 students. Supplies needed 2 yards 60" width micro-fleece fabric or 2 ½ yard of 45" fabric (we will be ordering from Joan); 12-16 fat quarters or a box full of scrap strips 1 ½" wide. Thread and a sewing machine. Pattern, $18, purchased from instructor in class. Each student actually gets 3 or 4 copies of the jacket pattern depending on which style she chooses. Students cut up all but one in class because the patterns are printed on both sides and it would take too long to trace out onto tracing paper, so they just cut up the paper.
